Patient X/0 who is credited with starting the outbreak became ill with cholera in a neighboring country (Sudan) but spread the disease to others in Uganda through water contamination.
Any person presenting with or dying from acute watery diarrhoea.
A suspected case with Vibrio cholerae O1 or O139 confirmed by culture or PCR.
