From 18 to 30 months after the beginning of the cholera epidemic in Haiti, nearly two-thirds of hospitalized diarrheal patients who were sampled at four large health facilities in Haiti had laboratory-confirmed V. cholerae. 99% of confirmed cases were Ogawa, and .9% were Inaba.
Collect stool specimens from up to 10 hospitalized patients per week with acute watery diarrhea (defined as three or more episodes of acute watery diarrhea within 24 hours, with onset of symptoms within the past 7 days).
